logic
There has to be a God
Nothing this wrecked could be random
Someone has to be driving the bus
To develop the complexity, perversity
Self-sacrifice, blind ambition
Cruelty, compassion, absolute devotion
To put a serial murderer rapist
On the same planet
With Mother Teresa and Desmond Tutu
Lady Gaga, Margaret Thatcher
Mozart, Einstein and Elmo
Jesus Christ and Adolf Hitler
Newborn babies, kittens, puppies
Terrorists and tsunamis
Nothing could be this random
This full of dreadful lessons
Beauty and horror
Kindness and degradation
It's got to be planned
Or it has to be a joke
Some sort of stumbling
Hair-brained, scientific
Analytic and totally irrational
Deus ex machina
Or — God forbid (so to speak)
Maybe it's all our doing
But that's the scariest hypothesis of all
(If we're running the show
We are truly screwed)
Or else
Maybe we're just an afternoon soap opera
On an extra-terrestrial iPad
Maybe I'll just go with that ….
