souvenirs

Ah, more presents from the sea
Tossed up from deep waters
Hints of worlds long forgotten
Little casings of former lives
As we are too

They grow dull when left to dry
The colors fade
Like Little Mermaids
Who grow legs
And long again for the sea
Nonetheless
They still carry
What was left behind
The whale, the dolphin
Beds of coral, restless sands and waves
A whole world beyond our reach
Singing in the palm of my hand
