crisis intervention
We have our homeless shelters, don’t we
Our battered women’s homes
Our ERs, detoxes
Crisis intervention centers
Our own broken heart and broken spirit
Case management
In the scattered kitchens and living rooms
Break rooms and dorm rooms
Park benches and porches
Bars and beauty parlors
Church kitchens and school lunchrooms
Coffee houses and restaurants
Where we gather
To ease grief, pain, despair, heartbreak
Shore up, patch together and dry tears
And send one another
Out into the world again
Our life-support tools are
Chocolate, Kleenex, funny cards
Chick movies and chick wine
And anything that makes us laugh
Holding each other together
With the bailing wire of love
