what Disney taught us
Life is messy, isn’t it?
All those movies, TV shows
Commercials about the good life – everything we want
Fancy cars, beautiful homes
A pretty, contented family
Sitting around a table
With everything going just right
So we see it
And expect it
There will be enough for everyone
No one will get hurt
No one will be sad
The marriage will be perfect
The children well-behaved
No disease, no injury, no death
And everyone will live happily ever after
But it isn’t like that
Life is messy
Things don’t fit together
We keep trying to make the piece fit
But it’s in the wrong puzzle
“Life is full of pain and suffering”
The Buddhists say
If you start with that
Maybe expectations
Get more realistic
Maybe then you learn to see
Hope among the ruins
And grow thankful for
All the things that go right
