in Hovland
Four winsome, watchful, watch-less wicked wenches
In silver socks and cowboy boots
(Three brunettes and a fading redhead)
Went out to dance in Hovland
Aware that the hours of the dance
Tick by rapidly
And the music of the dance
Goes on forever
But the dancers don’t
Warily, they waxed their wares
Wincing at their weariness
Wishing wistfully
That wonderful warriors
Would wend their way
Growing weary of the wait
And the dearth of partners
They welcomed each other
Out onto the dance floor
Whirling and whimsical
Wily and weightless
Bewitched by the music
And wafting in the warmth
Of each other’s company
They danced
No wan wallflowers, these wenches
Weightless as water lilies
Merrily they danced the night away
Upon the magic hour
When both their wit and wiles
Had waned away
They went
Wild and willowy
Wayfarers in the wintry night
Pausing, they whispered
How wondrous, wondering and wonderful we are!
And wove into the woods
Waltzing with the wolves
