talking with death

I have seen you for some time
Lurking in the shadows, waiting for my baby
Drawing him into darkness with you
By his own choices
And some he didn’t choose
I have fought you off many times
Hovered over his body and driven you away
With sheer mother’s will
And in the end you got him
Dragged him from us
Laughing in the dark

But whose joke is this?
I have news for you
We all die – that’s no accomplishment
You get us all anyway
You’ll get me
And I tell you
You made a big mistake
When you took my baby
You cheated yourself of my fear
Because I’m not afraid to go now
And once you have us
All the fear leaves us with our breath
And if we can believe
What we are told by the mystics and the priests
In the end, you have no victory at all
And I know this
I can still hear his voice
See his eyes, feel his hug
Embrace all those memories
I can feel his soul across the void
You cannot take these things
Nor his life nor the love from me
They live inside my soul forever
And in case you have forgotten
The souls do not belong to you ….
