I feel so secure
Seeing you standing there
Solid and permanent and stable
I am proud of how well you grew up
Proud I had a little part
Set the parameters
Gave you tools you needed
To thrive and bloom
A trombone, soccer shoes
All the books you could read
Art and help with homework
Tuition, clothes and backpacks
(Usually not the right kind ….)
And as much love as you could handle

So you have become everything
I most admire in a human being
Heart, intelligence and passion
Integrity, stability
Compassion and duty
Honor and commitment
The person I could not be

And you are my hero
