About the author Carol Allis has been writing poetry since her father gave her a manual Underwood typewriter when she was seven. Her first book, Poems for Ordinary People, will be published by North Star Press in June 2012. She lives in Minnetonka, Minnesota, with two cats and a herd of deranged squirrels, close to beloved family. By day, she writes for a living for Hennepin County Public Affairs, paring down governmentalize into words ordinary people can understand.
